The magic of journaling

Something's stirring
shifting, stretching.

A secret. Rising.
Like the coming winter,
I feel the change in the air.

Exhilaration. Freshness.
As I wait patiently
for this long hidden part of myself to reveal.

I recently came across this poem in an old journal of mine. It was the fall of 2014 and I was in a funk, feeling dissatisfied in my life and not really knowing why. These words spilled from my pen to land on the paper. I wasn't expecting them, but there they were – sparking hope and excitement at the mystery of discovering something new. It was one of my first "nudges" towards what eventually became Design Your Happy.

Sometimes journaling feels tedious, forced. But other times, inner wisdom surfaces as "the writer" with something major to share with you, the reader.  I've found that this happens when I stopping thinking and just let the pen fly across the page. When I let go of expectations. When I get out of the way. That's when it's magic.
